Georgia O’Keeffe’s Flowers (3-12)

No one saw a flower the way artist Georgia O’Keeffe did. She looked closely, depicted flowers on a large scale, and over the course of seven decades, this modernist painter changed the art world. In this session, students will draw their own flowers, large and up-close. This project enables us to see all parts of the flower and emphasizes warm and cool colors.

Seasonal Drawing Lesson (3-12)

We may not often experience more than one very hot season in Acadiana, but we can depict them in art! This step-by-step drawing session will utilize simple techniques in order to teach students how to create a unique and personal masterpiece. Themes include: gumbo pot for fall, hot chocolate or king cake for winter, and sno-ball for spring! Pick your preference, and chat with the artist about options after booking.

Natural Egg Dyeing (K-5)

Don’t wait for Easter to buy a pack of colored tablets from the grocery store! Natural egg dyeing has been around for centuries in Europe. Our French ancestors brought this method of dyeing eggs to Louisiana in the late 1700s, and some farm families in Acadiana still practice it today. In this lesson, students will “go back in time” by learning this technique to create a truly unique egg.

Flower Still Life (1-8)

This multi-step activity introduces students to the basics of observational drawing and mixed media painting. Students will first sketch fresh flowers in pencil, then add crayon for a wax-resist effect, and finally bring their compositions to life using watercolor. This is art in layers, and creativity unfolds like a flower opening.

Watercolor Winter Cards (2-8)

In this festive session, students will design and paint their own holiday greeting cards using watercolor techniques. Students will explore winter themes, color palettes, and personal expression while creating meaningful art to share with loved ones. This session is making the world a more beautiful and expressive place one card at a time!
