TEACHING ARTIST SESSION

VA-003 The Art of Surrealism: A Mixed Media Journey (3-5)

The students will explore what surrealism was and is today. They will randomly choose cutouts of objects and words of objects to create their own surrealist mixed-media collage. Using cutouts and paint/ acrylic markers, they will be challenged to interconnect these randomized objects to create their own narrative creatively. As they work, they will learn the principles of surrealism and how it has allowed artists to express themselves in unique ways. This interactive activity will help students learn unique aspects of art and storytelling.

Tiffany Luong

Tiffany Luong is a Vietnamese American multi-disciplinary artist from Lafayette, Louisiana, who explores her cultural identity through her artistic expression. While she has been building her career as an artist for most of her life, only recently has she been exploring her identity outside of conformity in her work. Her work aims to express aspects of herself and what it means to unapologetically be yourself in a world lacking authenticity. The themes of the inner child, perspective, spirituality, and whimsy are prevalent throughout her work.
