Get ready for the courir! In this lesson, students will have the opportunity to learn fun facts about Mardi Gras while learning how to paint a chicken running in a Courir de Mardi Gras/Mardi Gras chicken run. They will learn how to mix paint, how to create a background, midground and foreground, and practice alternative painting techniques. There will not be any beads involved, but this Mardi Gras moment will still feature joy, color, and something getting caught!

Ke'Shawn Collins

Ke’Shawn was born and raised in Opelousas, Louisiana, where he grew up drawing at the table with his brother and uncle. Even though he would lose their friendly drawing competition, he never gave up because he enjoyed creating images and sketching them on paper. Ke’Shawn went to Magnet Academy for Cultural Arts in Opelousas, where he was given the tools and freedom to create. He says art has always been his way and passion, and his mother is his biggest inspiration and motivation. His ultimate goal in life is to inspire young and older generations by showing them that there are many ways to express themselves and that art can serve as a channel for emotions.
