You don’t need a brush to do it, but it is an artform! Discover wycinanki, the Polish folk art of papercutting! Legend states that these creations were once used to decorate working and lower class homes in Eastern Europe, and now, this technique can give students new ways to create with minimal materials.

Sam Wrobel

Sam Wróbel is a multidisciplinary artist and specialist in the Polish papercutting folk art of wycinanki. Sam grew up in the Chicago area, where he learned wycinanki from artist Doris Sikorsky. He has received two Master/Apprentice grants in Ethnic Art from the Illinois Arts Council. Prior to becoming a resident of southwestern Louisiana, Sam spent 10 years as a commercial chalkboard and sign artist for Trader Joe’s, while doing freelance illustration, painting, and design. Sam has been living in Acadiana since 2017, has been teaching in ACA programs since 2019, and now runs the Student Art Markets at ACA’s Student Art Expos. See more about Sam at samwrobel.com
